Configure Your DNS

To ensure proper configuration of your domain, it is essential to set up a CNAME (Canonical Name) record in your DNS settings. A CNAME allows you to point your custom domain to the Scholar OS domain, enabling users to access your software through a branded URL.

This guide will walk you through the steps to configure the CNAME record.

Step 1: Accessing Your DNS Settings

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's website (e.g., GoDaddy, AliCloud, Azure or Cloudflare).
  2. Navigate to the DNS Settings or Domain Management section.
  3. Look for an option to manage DNS Records or Zone File Settings.

Step 2: Adding the CNAME Record

  1. In the DNS management interface, find the option to Add a New Record.
  2. Choose CNAME as the record type.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Host/Name: a subdomain you want to use (e.g., portal.yourdomain.com).
    • Value/Target: a fully qualified domain name provided by our support team (e.g., fqdn.scholaros.com).
    • TTL: Set the Time-to-Live (TTL) to 3600 seconds (or leave the default setting).

Example:

FieldValue
Hostportal
Valuefqdn.scholaros.com
TTL3600
  1. Save the changes.

Step 3: Verifying the CNAME Setup

  1. After adding the CNAME record, allow some time (up to 24 hours) for DNS propagation.
  2. Use a DNS lookup tool (e.g., DNS Checker) to confirm that the CNAME record has been propagated globally.
  3. Once verified, try accessing the Scholar OS using your custom domain (e.g., portal.yourdomain.com).

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

  • DNS Propagation Delay: DNS changes can take time to propagate. If the CNAME does not resolve immediately, wait a few hours before checking again.
  • Incorrect CNAME Values: Double-check the CNAME record’s value and ensure it matches the SaaS platform domain exactly.
